The inaugural NSW Students’ Surgical Skills Competition (SSSC) was held at Liverpool Hospital over the weekend of August 2-3, 2014. The University of Sydney team competed against teams from other NSW medical schools: UNSW, UWS, UOW, UND and Newcastle.
The SSSC is a six station surgical skills competition based on the Golden Scalpel Games run by NSW HETI. Stations are designed and judged by consultant surgeons and include early management of severe trauma, surgical anatomy & radiology, wound closure, laparoscopic skills, instrument identification and hand-sewn bowel anastomosis. All stations placed great emphasis on teamwork and professionalism.
Sydney University Surgical Society were victorious this year, taking out the SSSC award. Congratulations to the successful team:
