Sydney University Surgical Society is pleased to announce Neurosurgery Grand Rounds, presented by Dr Johnny Wong
Dr Johnny Wong is a neurosurgeon with subspecialty interests in cerebrovascular and endovascular neurosurgery along with cranial and skull base tumours.
After graduating medical school at UNSW with honours, Dr Wong completed neurosurgical training in Sydney in 2014 and went on to complete two subspecialty fellowships in North America. He underwent a 1-year open cerebrovascular and skull base fellowship at the University of Toronto, and a 2-year endovascular/interventional neuroradiology fellowship at Stanford University.
During his neurosurgical training, Dr Wong also completed his Masters in clinical epidemiology and a PhD on spinal cord injury and syringomyelia. His research on syringomyelia received several awards, including Peter Leech Memorial Prize in 2012, and Macquarie University Research Excellence Award in 2013.
Dr Wong assesses and treats patients with cranial and spinal tumours (glioma, glioblastoma, meningioma, metastases, pituitary adenoma and acoustic neuroma). He applies endoscopic and minimally invasive techniques to neurosurgical operations. In addition, he performs endovascular embolisation for head and neck, and spinal tumours. He also performs vertebroplasty for pathological spinal fractures.
This grand rounds will be particularly relevant to Stage 2 students in Neurology block; however, students from all stages and clinical schools are welcome.
