Support men’s health: join Team Anasto-Mo-SUSS for Movember!

Support men’s health: join Team Anasto-Mo-SUSS for Movember!

This November SUSS is dedicated to raising funds and awareness for men’s health. The Movember campaign focuses on prostate cancer, testicular cancer, poor mental health, and physical activity.

You can get involved in November in three ways:
1. Grow a Mo
2. Move in Movember: we are particularly excited about this new option – it’s a pledge to do some form of exercise every day in November. Try it out in instead of growing a Mo, or do both!
3. Support your Mo-Mates – see below for how to donate to the team.

It’s an easy way to support a good cause while you study for your exams. You can grow a Mo while you summarise lectures, and then take a Move in Movember study break and walk outside for 15 minutes!

To get started, visit the Team Anasto-Mo-SUSS page. Click on ‘Join This Team’ to participate, or click on ‘Donate to Team’ to support your friends and colleagues.

It’s a Mo-brainer!

UPDATE: Congratulations to the SUSS team who made it to Bondi Beach yesterday and raised over $5000 for Interplast!

On the 9th of August, the members of Sydney University Surgical Society (SUSS) will once again run the City2Surf and raise funds to support Interplast.

Interplast is an Australian and New Zealand charity that provides free, life-changing surgical treatment for people in the Asia-Pacific region who would otherwise be unable to access such services. Its teams train local surgeons, doctors, and allied health professionals so that the communities they visit may continue to benefit long after they’ve left. Their patients are mostly children suffering from congenital conditions such as cleft lip/palate or acquired conditions such as burn scar contractures.

Check out their website here: www.interplast.org.au

Previous years have been huge successes. Since SUSS has been running the 14 km from Macquarie St to Bondi Beach in full surgical garb, we have raised over $15,000. Read the media coverage of the 2014 SUSS City2Surf campaign. We are committed to supporting Interplast in their valuable work and want to continue this year by raising our largest total ever. So please get involved by running and raising funds with us in the SUSS team.

This is a great way to get off your study chair and get fit while supporting a fantastic cause, raising awareness, and making friends. The run itself is awesome; you will have a lot of fun and see some spectacular views of our beautiful city.

Interplast has again partnered with SUSS and they promise to gift Interplast-branded scrubs to those who raise over a certain amount to run the race in. Details to come.

Congratulations SUSS City2Surf Crew 2014!

Congratulations SUSS City2Surf Crew 2014!

Congratulations to everyone who ran in the City2Surf this weekend. The team has raised over $8,000 for Interplast so far with a little more time to go. We had a great crew with 51 entrants making it all 14km from the city to Bondi. Our top 3 runners totalled a time of 3 hours and 9 seconds, placing SUSS 86th as a team.

The winner of the SUSS City2Surf Shield for the fastest time run in the team scrubs goes to Harry Narroway, coming in at 63:18. Two more notable achievements go to Robbie Stuart for the fastest overall time with 54:33, and fastest girl, Simoné Visagie, with a time of 73:58.

Well done everyone, a fantastic effort. Particularly, a big thanks to Matt Georgiades for organising everyone and getting the fundraising kicking.

Let’s see if we can beat some more records next year!
