2017 Golden Scalpel Games Results

Congratulations to the University of Sydney team for finishing in the top 4 at the Student Golden Scalpel Games over the weekend! We are very proud of the team for their dedication these past few months and for delivering a stellar performance despite being under high pressure on game day. The stations included laparoscopic anatomy, wound management, knot tying, wound debridement, instrument naming and plastering.

SUSS meets with Turia Pitt ahead of 2014 City2Surf

The SUSS City2Surf team caught up with burns survivor and Interplast Australia & New Zealand Ambassador Turia Pitt at the University of Sydney on the weekend. The 60 team members will run in Interplast scrubs and have already raised $6100 for Interplast.

SUSS: 2014 Winners of the NSW Students’ Surgical Skills Competition

The inaugural NSW Students’ Surgical Skills Competition (SSSC) was held at Liverpool Hospital over the weekend of August 2-3, 2014. The University of Sydney team competed against teams from other NSW medical schools: UNSW, UWS, UOW, UND and Newcastle.

The SSSC is a six station surgical skills competition based on the Golden Scalpel Games run by NSW HETI. Stations are designed and judged by consultant surgeons and include early management of severe trauma, surgical anatomy & radiology, wound closure, laparoscopic skills, instrument identification and hand-sewn bowel anastomosis. All stations placed great emphasis on teamwork and professionalism.

Sydney University Surgical Society were victorious this year, taking out the SSSC award. Congratulations to the successful team:
